Note: there are no Summer 2017 PEDAL classes at Penn GSE. Please register at our Community PEDAL site if you are interested in continuing PEDAL English classes this summer!

Important!

  • Students who attend PEDAL@GSE classes at Penn GSE on Friday mornings cannot also attend Community PEDAL classes at the Walnut West Library.
  • Penn international students, visiting scholars, post-docs, and faculty are NOT eligible to attend PEDAL@GSE classes.  The classes are ONLY for Penn family members and guests of family.

PEDAL@GSE Student Registration

PEDAL@GSE has four levels of English classes.
Which one is right for you?

The PEDAL@GSE Novice Class is for English learners...

  • Who use mostly individual words or short phrases to communicate in American English, and have very little experience talking with proficient American English speakers.
  • Who might describe events in present time, but rarely use past or future time, and have a small American English vocabulary to talk about daily interactions.
  • Whose spoken English is difficult for proficient American English speakers to understand.

The PEDAL@GSE Intermediate Class is for English learners…

  • Who use mostly sentence-length or longer statements to communicate in American English, and are comfortable speaking for short periods of time with proficient American English speakers.
  • Who can easily describe events in present time, but have some difficulties describing events in past and future time, and have a moderate American English vocabulary for general topics such as work, school, or daily life.
  • Whose spoken English is sometimes difficult for proficient American English speakers to understand.

The PEDAL@GSE Advanced Class is for English learners…

  • Who frequently use paragraph-length or longer statements to communicate in American English, and are comfortable talking for long periods of time with proficient American English speakers.
  • Who can easily describe events in the past, present, and future time, and have a large American English vocabulary for general and specialized topics.
  • Whose spoken English is usually easy for proficient American English speakers to understand. 

The PEDAL@GSE Discussion Circle is for English learners…

  • Who are interested in participating in and leading discussions on current events with other high-advanced level English speakers
  • Who easily use paragraph-length or longer statements to communicate in American English, and are comfortable talking for long periods of time with proficient American English speakers.
  • Who can easily describe events in the past, present, and future time, and have a large American English vocabulary for general and specialized topics.
  • Whose spoken English is easy for proficient American English speakers to understand.
